Every child has a bed, and every child likes to play imaginative games. Therefore a bed quickly becomes a source on which many of these games take place. So why not help them along and make their beds into something exciting.

At bedstar.co.uk they have a bed called the Hide Out bed. This raised cabin bed looks like an open beach hut. The top has a fabric triangular roof and the bottom has two fabric flaps that allow your children to crawl in and out of the ‘hide-out’ space underneath. Imagine the games this would create? Perhaps it is a two-storied house, or they may be mice running in and out of their mouse holes. The possibilities are endless.

You could even create a novelty bed of your own. If you already have a cabin bed why not put a picture on one side that makes it look like a boat. You could create cabin holes underneath for them to store things in, and you could hang a sail off the ceiling above the bed. Having a life like boat for a bed would make any child’s day. Think of how they would boast about their bed in the playground.

But if boats are not their thing, then cars probably will be. There are plenty of car beds out on the market and they can quite often look very genuine.

If novelty beds are not what you are looking for, then why not stimulate your child’s imagination with brightly coloured bedding and cushions, or even themed covers like a forest or sky. They can then imagine they are sat in a wood or floating on clouds.

The key is to remember that a kids bed is far more than a bed to them, and we should support that enthusiastic use of imagination.
